One RI Coalition
One Rhode Island promotes economic security for all Rhode Islanders.  The One Rhode Island Coalition advocates for public policies, resources and programs that insure Rhode Islanders can meet their basic needs.  The Coalition is comprised of more than 160 social service, religious, labor and advocacy organizations and is led by the One RI Steering Committee.

The 2007 One RI Legislative Platform is currently being developed.  To receive timely updates about coalition activities and legislative alert, sign up for the One RI Listserv by clicking here.

Rhode Island Workforce Alliance
The Poverty Institute, in conjunction with the RI Economic Policy Council, recently established the RI Workforce Alliance. The Alliance advocates for local, state, and federal policies and investments that help RI workers and job seekers, especially those who are low-income or low-skilled, advance in the workforce and that help RI businesses better compete in today's economy.  The Alliance includes representatives from business; labor; providers; community, advocacy and policy organizations such as the following:

State Fiscal Analysis Initiative (SFAI)
The Poverty Institute was accepted into the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative (SFAI) network in 2003.  The SFAI network is coordinated by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a Washington-based research organization and strategic policy institute that works on a range of federal and state issues.  SFAI brings together nonpartisan, nonprofit organizations in each of 29 states. These organizations have diverse backgrounds and missions, but they share a commitment to rigorous policy analysis, responsible budget and tax policies, and  a particular focus on the needs of low- and moderate-income families. The organizations broaden the debate on budget and tax policy through public education and the encouragement of civic engagement on these issues.

Since launching in 1993 in 11 states, SFAI has grown steadily. The 29 states in SFAI include 70 percent of the nation’s population. Additional state-level organizations are expected to join the network in the coming years.

RI Parents for Progress
For the past twenty years, RI Parents for Progress has worked with low-income families to improve anti-poverty policies and programs, particularly welfare and workfoce development programs.  In the spring of 2006, RI Parents for Progress was invited to become a project of the Poverty Institute in an effort to join forces, combine resources, and share expertise.  Heidi Collins, former Director of RI Parents for Progress, became the Director of Public Education and will continue to coordinate the membership activities of RI Parents for Progress.
